Dave Kawano is a sculptor from LA, and has a new line of resin toys based on the graffiti art of VOX ONE. They’re AWESOME!! HE tells us a bit more about himself…

I’ve been sculpting for the last 15 years for the toy/action figure industry. I’ve been creating pieces for galleries for the past 9-10 years with many of the pieces being collaborations with Graffiti, Urban, Street and Lowbrow Artists.
As for Graffiti, I’ve worked in collaboration with such artists as Craola, DAIM, VOX, Man One, and many others. I’ll be happy to send pics of these pieces if you are interested. For the past two years, I’ve been getting my toy company, U1Toy Arts off the ground.

One of my primary goals was to get this line together. My idea was to find a way to create a sculpture of the lettering styles of various writers and find a way to display them affordably. We’ve named our new toy line “Letters From LA” with our first four pieces based on the work of Los Angeles writers.
Once we’ve completed the first four, our eventual plan is to take the series to another country or city and continue the “Letters From . . .” series with four writers from another part of our world.

Our first piece is based on the art of VOX ONE. I chose this piece because of my familiarity with his work. I wanted to showcase a piece that had an “old-school” sensibility with a traditional wall background for it to hang from. It is the most traditional piece we will create in that it is the most basic of all ideas – lettering on a wall.
If you were to see the piece in person, you would see the detail I’ve sculpted into the piece to capture the “computer” dimensional fill-in, the crisp lines throughout the piece, and the textures surrounding the border which mimics the wall this piece was originally painted on.
I’ve also represented his tag on the base, sculpted directly from his signature. We already have the next writers in place, the next piece will be based on the art of MAN ONE, owner of Crewest Gallery here in LA.

Here are some other facts about the piece.
