DBAR makes some pretty head-spinning art, which we’re really feeling, World Graffiti had a chat with the man and got some photos…
WG – What name do you use when you paint and where are you from?
Well my full name is Gregory Maxwell Dunn. My paint name that some people know me as is DBAR which is short for DUNNBAR, just a nickname I go by.
I grew up in upstate New York in a small town called Altamont, 45 minutes from the capitol city of Albany N.Y.
WG – How long does sit take you to do a piece?
When I do a free style live piece some times it takes me 45 minutes to an hour with a fat PILOT MARKER, depending on how big of a piece I’m working on. Or when I’m in my studio painting with acrylics and spray paint and with more detail.
Size wise something like 3ft w x 65″ long about a week or two.
WG – What do you like to use when you paint?
I like to use a 0.5 or 0.7 STAEDTLER pigment liner pen. For thicker out line SHARPIE or best of all a big fat PILOT SUPER MARKER. For when I’m painting I enjoy using Winsor & Newton acrylics or just household bucket paint. As for spray paint I like Rust-Oleum, Krylon or anything else cheap.
WG – You into any other artists?
Doze Green, Jeremy Fish, Mark Gonzoles, Dali and Rodger Dean.
WG – Favourite sneakers/shoes?
I-PATH LOCUST or HALF CAB VANS.
WG – How did you first get into the stuff you do?
Mostly though skateboarding. I always enjoyed looking at old skateboard graphics. I have had a lot of relatives that were artists as well and would hand me down art books, paints and canvas. Never went to school for art, always been self-taught, picking up tips here and there.
WG – Any shout outs?
I would like to thank my friend Lee Maskiell, thanks for looking out.
Big thanks to DBAR for taking the time to chat, we’ll bring you more as it surfaces…
