Banksy Filmed Painting Live For Exclusive Sunday Times Magazine Cover
So everyone has heard about the new Banksy film by now, ‘Exit Through the Gift Shop’, well he did an interview for the English Newspaper Magazine ‘The Sunday Times’ at the end of February 2010. They filmed him paint an exclusive chimp stencil for their cover and featured a pretty interesting interview with the man (done remotely of course…). Have a look…

Banksy Movie to Feature at 2010 Sundance Festival in Utah – ‘Exit Through The Gift Shop’
Banksy’s film debut will appear in the “Spotlight Surprise” slot Sunday at 8:30 p.m. at the Library Center in Park City, Utah.
It’s apparently a story of an eccentric French shop keeper who becomes a documentary maker attempts to locate and befriend Banksy, only to have the artist turn the camera back on him. It’s narrated by Welsh actor Rhys Ifans, of Twin Town and Notting Hill fame and has music by Mr. Scruff.
People started to suspect something was going on (despite the film not being listed on the schedules for the festival) after 4 stencils popped up around Park City, where the festival is being held.
Here is one of the new Park City stencils…
Banksy said of the film ”It’s the story of how one man set out to film the un-filmable. And failed”.

Exclusive Banksy Exhibition, UK – Original Stencil Art Sold- Sneak Look October 2009…
I was a lucky lad on Monday (big shout to James W for sorting it!) and got the chance to go to a private Banksy exhibition and sale in London at a members-only club deeeeeeeep in the ground.
We weren’t allowed to take photos so apologies for the poor quality of the pics, but it ain’t easy to be subtle with a bloody huge camera phone so I did my best to shoot what I could!
It was great to see the art in the flesh instead of just prints, and there were a couple there I’ve never seen pics of before so that was pretty cool. I’d say it was about as far away from the ethos of graffiti art as it could possibly be, big money and plush surroundings…
As an added bonus there was art from Nick Walker, a friend of Banksy’s I believe. He is known for the men in suits and bowler hats, here is a Nick Walker ‘Vandal’ piece from New York. I actually prefer him to Banksy, bit more colour and less in your face political commenting.
But anyway, here are the pics, I took a note of some of the prices of the originals too in case you’ve ever wondered how much an original Banksy can cost….

One was spotted in the Mali suburbs of Bamako, and they are the route to Timbukto. Flickr user Olly C says they were created maybe 5 months ago, it’s cool that they’re starting to get found.

Banksy art has become synonymous with graffiti over the past few years after a number of high profile sales to celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
As with anything, there has been a backlash against Banksy as he becomes more mainstream and well-known (actually, loads of graff writers never liked him), but there’s no denying his art and popularity has had a positive effect on how urban art is seen by the public.

Graffiti in New York – Graff & Urban Art
Here’s some awesome graffiti in New York, stencils and urban art taken March 2009 – from the kind fella Nick from MusicMule. Check out his site for the latest indie music news and tunes.
If you know who the artists of any of these other photos are then let me know!
Back to it – check out this one, works really well with the taxis I reckon. I spent frickin’ ages looking for more information, it’s actually a 2008 homage to the legendary 80’s street artist Keith Haring in East Village, New York. His art is well worth hunting out, this tribute is spot on.
Yes, a Spock Marilyn Monroe. Sponroe? I’ll shut up now.

The next one looks like Banksy, but it’s actually not – it’s Nick Walker, another Brit. Painted April 2008 I think.

Westminster Council Order Banksy Art Covered
Westminster council have ordered a Banksy work that is on the wall of a Royal Mail building to be covered up. Royal Mail are actually not so keen to do so, but the Council insists.
In other news, the councils seem to be claming down hard on graffiti in the UK, with 6 recent reports in the last month on people getting busted and ordered to clean them up.
It mostly seems to relate to tagging, but still, it’s a new precident for the UK councils. Keep your eyes peeled people!

Londoners unite – graffiti from the capital
Brought to you by www.world-graffiti.com.
More London graffiti, mainly because I’ve got loads of pictures sat around and I’m in Swissworld from tomorrow on a graffiti hunt…
A crappy graffiti photo of a Banksy rat in Old Street taken in 2006, not sure if the building is still there or not…

This really annoys me, tosssers messing up a great piece of graffiti by tagging all over it, tag somewhere else you idiots! Taken in North London, near Angel tube station.

It was pretty sick before it got messed up…

Another graffiti photo from the Old Street council estate out the back of the Tube station in London. I love the colouring and the fact that it doesn’t have a standard graffiti style as such.

The photo and the graffiti aren’t especially amazing, but I was impressed with where it was done, right next to a North London train platform.

Solveig – The new, female 10 year old Banksy? Eh?
Brought to you by www.world-graffiti.com.
Sloveig
A girl of 10 has been labelled the female Banksy (is that such a great label these days?), she started painting her creations on special legal graffiti sites around Brighton, Sussex, at the age of eight. Her name is Solveig (her first name and tag name). Got to say, I like her style! Has a cool bold look, I can see slight similarities to Blu.
Now I’ve gone and compared her to a legend. Hmmmm.
Ignore me, and check out some of her art, awesome!
