ESTRIA and HIS GRAFFITI BATTLE
ESTRIA began spray painting in Hawai’i in 1984 and has since painted hundreds of murals. He was an influential leader of the “Golden Age” of graffiti (1980’s) in San Francisco. He garnered national attention with his arrest for graffiti in 1994 appearing on CNN, the San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner, and the National Enquirer.
He has taught classes and served the community through his non-profit cultural work for over 28 years. Estria’s life work has been to build and advance community through mural projects.
For more information on Estria, visit www.estria.com and to view more of his art, go to www.estriabattle.com.
So get to one of these 2 events in San Francisco, the Graff Exhibition (September 11th to October 9th 2009) – featuring the artwork of all the battling artists in the finals, and Estria Invitational Graffiti Battle (EIGB) FINALS (October 10th).
Looking forward to seeing what comes out of the event! So far, it looks good enough to put on photo calendars or t-shirts, it’s all about Estria’s wild colours…

Video Game Graffiti Art (Part 2)
Yup More Video Game Graffiti Art (Part 2)
Guest post by Jerry (find him on twitter).
This time round we’re taking a look at graffiti art inspired by video gaming, rather than graffiti actually in the game play (see part 1). We’ll pull out some more in-game shots for a 3rd post next time!
Mario, Sonic, Donkey Kong…
Montreal Mario graffiti – and Luigi Vuitton (in small white letters):

A menacing Mario. Location: Unknown.

Mario mushroom graffiti that popped up in Be’er-Sheva, Israel:

Bo-bombs spotted in Philadelphia, style!!! Could make a good wallpaper…

Crash Bandicoot and Sonic graffiti – this one comes from the Bronx, New York – I always preferred Mario though…

San Francisco’s SoMa area shows off Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, Pacman ghosts, you name it!

Video game graffiti – Space Invader from Lille, France
Consoles & Graffiti
Great stuff, personalised case/ face plate for the ol’ Xbox 360, we need more of these!

Wii graffiti – a student at Bauhas University (Weimar, Germany) made this prototype for the Wii:

Sony PSP graffiti - back in 2005, Sony started adding some graffiti to promote their PlayStation Portable. Apparently Sony paid owners of buildings a fee to ‘advertise’. Locations included NYC, LA, Chicago, San Francisco and Philadelphia.
It became interesting when the people revolted, some good examples:

Graffiti and Street Art in San Francisco – Colour Arrows
San Francisco Graffiti Week that I planned has become San Francisco graff month,I didn’t realise how many photos I took, but it’s coming to an end…
I’ve got some great graff shots from Granada and Southern Spain to get up over the next week but in the meantime, here is the last set of San Francisco street art photos. Until I go back anyway.
This was a long wall in the Mission district of San Fran, to be honest I can’t remember exactly where it is but it’s near Capp Street and 20th. Not got a clue who the artist is, if you know then give me a heads-up.

San Francisco Graffiti Art – Cool Graffiti Photos – The Big Wall
San Francisco graffiti art is some of my favourite from anywhere, here are a whole bunch of cool graffiti photos taken in Feb 2009.
They’re all from one large wall right by the pavement on the corner. I was going to split the post into 2 but thought it’d be best to have them all in one place instead, much better.
The graff wall is on the corner of Capp and 20th, or 21st, or one of those (sorry…being useless), if you go down Capp St counting up then you’ll see it. It’s HUGE.

Graffiti in San Francisco – More from Mission
Graffiti in San Francisco – More SF Graff from Mission
Here are some more graffiti photos taken in San Francisco in Feb 09, walking about in Mission and between 15th and 28th Street where they meet Capp Street. There are loads of little back alleys to go explore, loads of great graff.

I thought this one was especially sick, couldn't get a great photo because of the sun but still... San Francisco graffiti

The whole of this back street was covered in graff. San Francisco graffiti, photo taken in 2009 in Mission district. Graffiti urban art.

San Francisco Urban Art in Mission 2009
San Francisco graffiti art has a great reputation, and it should have too.
Here are some photos of graffiti in San Francisco taken in 2009 around the Mission district, Capp Street and 18th upwards.

Graffiti in San Francisco – Mission District and Around…
Finally, after weeks of fighting with retarded internet providers and an exploded laptop, I manage to put up some of the San Francisco graffiti photos taken during a visit in April 09.
San Francisco graffiti has a different look to a lot of other cities I think, some is a bit of a coloured drug-head mess, and some is awesome.
I’ve put a lot here, might take a moment to load but it’s worth it, and I’m trying to make up for my recent rubbishness.
To start the www.world-graffiti.com ‘San Francisco Graffiti Month’, here are a bunch of shots taken by Sara, thanks very mucho. Yes I’m learning Spanish too.

So there will be a lot more of this to come over the next month, and I’ve got some interesting shots of painted buildings, some pretty crazy stuff going on.
