DOZE GREEN Interview on Walrus TV – New York Graffiti Artist

DOZE GREEN Interview on Walrus TV – New York Graffiti Artist

The peeps at Upper Playground and Walrus TV have got a great new interview with New York graffiti legend Doze Green (an original member of the Rock Steady Crew), it’s well worth a watch to hear the thoughts of a pioneering old skool graff writer…

They sent over a bunch of info too, here they go!

Doze Green merges influences from his East Coast graffiti and b-boy background with a painting style he refined on the West Coast. The resulting artwork is complex and intensely symbolic, serving as a means of both social commentary and self-awareness.

His interest in the duality of the human condition is reflected throughout his pieces. Doze Green’s work has been displayed in cities across Europe, Japan, Australia, and the United States. Watch the interview, on Walrus TV (actually, got the YouTube vid below).

Doze Green was born and raised in New York City. He is an original member of the infamous Rock Steady Crew. He is a pioneer of Hip Hop Culture and a Graff Legend – the King of Character’s. Over the years, Doze Green’s paintings have progressed from the streets and into galleries. In the same spirit of graffiti they tell the stories of the oppressed which continue to be largely untold.

His art career began on the walls and eventually the trains of NYC in 1974. By the mid 1980’s he was exhibiting his work in art spaces such as the OK Harris Gallery, Tony Shafrazi Gallery and the Fun Gallery. Doze Green’s work is in many public and private collections throughout the United States, Japan, Europe and Australia.

San Francisco Graffiti – Some random bit’s left over in the camera…

San Francisco Graffiti

Here are a few shots of San Francisco graffiti that didn’t make it into other posts so I thought I’d stick them in cos some are good! Tomorrow I’ll have a few lovely shots from World Graffiti favourites KA’a (part of Krupion Collective, France). And maybe on Thursday I’ll put up the Top 50 Photos from the year Part 2… Maybe…

There is so much great graffiti around San Francisco, and here is some other really interesting street art

San Francisco Street Art – ‘Carnival’ 1994

San Francisco Street Art – ‘Carnival’ 1994 by Joshua Sarantitis, Emmanuel Montoya and Carlos Loarca

This street art (‘Carnival’ 1994) is within walking distance of Capp Street and 20th in San Francisco Mission District. It’s HUGE and goes all the way along a block.

It’s a mix of 3 artists (there are a load of assisting people too, see the list in the gallery).

I love this! Amazing festival colours, would make my walk to work a happy one. If you know anything about it then let me know, it is obviously themed and seems to depict some sort of South American message but I couldn’t tell you exactly what it is…

San Francisco Graffiti – Street Art Mural

This is an interesting bunch of San Francisco graffiti photos from Sara SN, taken in July 2009 but it looks like the main mural was done in 2006.

It’s a cool mix of traditional painting, and some graff too, cool colours.

Here is some more San Fran street art, and some really great graff from California.

Cheers again to Sara for these graffiti shots!

Graffiti and Street Art in San Francisco – Colour Arrows

Graffiti and Street Art in San Francisco – Colour Arrows

San Francisco Graffiti Week that I planned has become San Francisco graff month,I didn’t realise how many photos I took, but it’s coming to an end…

I’ve got some great graff shots from Granada and Southern Spain to get up over the next week but in the meantime, here is the last set of San Francisco street art photos. Until I go back anyway.

This was a long wall in the Mission district of San Fran, to be honest I can’t remember exactly where it is but it’s near Capp Street and 20th. Not got a clue who the artist is, if you know then give me a heads-up.

San Francisco Graffiti Art – Cool graffiti photos – The big wall

San Francisco Graffiti Art – Cool Graffiti Photos – The Big Wall

San Francisco graffiti art is some of my favourite from anywhere, here are a whole bunch of cool graffiti photos taken in Feb 2009.

They’re all from one large wall right by the pavement on the corner. I was going to split the post into 2 but thought it’d be best to have them all in one place instead, much better.

The graff wall is on the corner of Capp and 20th, or 21st, or one of those (sorry…being useless), if you go down Capp St counting up then you’ll see it. It’s HUGE.

San Francisco graffiti has a reputation as being some of the most exciting new urban art around, you can see more in the World Graffiti archives.

Here is a decent post, or check out this San Francisco graffiti post instead!

Graffiti in San Francisco – Mission District and Around…

Finally, after weeks of fighting with retarded internet providers and an exploded laptop, I manage to put up some of the San Francisco graffiti photos taken during a visit in April 09.

San Francisco graffiti has a different look to a lot of other cities I think, some is a bit of a coloured drug-head mess, and some is awesome.

I’ve put a lot here, might take a moment to load but it’s worth it, and I’m trying to make up for my recent rubbishness.

To start the www.world-graffiti.com ‘San Francisco Graffiti Month’, here are a bunch of shots taken by Sara, thanks very mucho. Yes I’m learning Spanish too.
